Operations today

A mine in active use

Kvarntorp Gruvan is today an active facility with operations across several different areas. Mining machinery is tested in a real rock environment, while herbs, salads and green shoots are grown in a controlled environment underground.

The scale of the mine makes it possible for several different operations to run in parallel, in separate parts of the facility.

Epiroc

Testing and development in rock

Epiroc uses parts of Kvarntorp Gruvan for testing and developing mining machines and equipment. Drilling and other tests can be carried out directly in rock, under conditions that match real mining operations.

Växa Odling

Underground farming

Växa Odling grows herbs, salads and microgreens in Kvarntorp Gruvan. In a controlled underground environment, cultivation runs all year round, independent of weather and season.

Former operation

Archiving underground

For many years, Kvarntorp Gruvan was used for archiving and document storage. Its protected location underground, the stable temperature and the possibility of controlled access created good conditions for safe, long-term storage of documents and archive material.

Storage environments

Storage in rock

The rock caverns can be configured for anything from basic warehousing to more specialised storage. A small number of spaces are already equipped with shelving and pallet racking, while others can be fitted out and adapted to the needs of the business.

For materials and products that require special storage conditions, temperature and humidity can also be adjusted.

Possibilities

Room for more operations

Kvarntorp Gruvan offers large, flexible spaces with opportunities for operations in many different fields. Below are examples of how the rock caverns could be used.

01

Industry & testing

For industrial operations, technical development and testing that require large areas, seclusion or access to a real rock environment.

02

Production & warehousing

Rock caverns that can be adapted for production, warehousing and logistics, with the option to design the premises around the operation's needs.

03

Data centres & technology

Underground spaces with existing power and fibre infrastructure, and the option to adapt the caverns for data centres and other technical operations.

04

Cultivation & special environments

Rock caverns where temperature, ventilation and other environmental conditions can be adapted for cultivation and operations with special requirements.
